About Pretty / Hungry
I’ve always been a believer in beautiful food. Ask my dad… as a kid I used to ask him to give me a letter grade for the ketchup designs I made on my fishsticks! It was my art! And it still is. That’s why I created Pretty/Hungry!
To me, cooking is creating… and food truly is art. But its certainly not enough for it to just look pretty, it also has to taste awesome! (My husband would disagree… if it looks like slop but tastes great, he’ll gobble it up. And let’s be honest… so would I… but I probably wouldn’t call it art.)
The purpose of Pretty / Hungry is to provide you with the recipes I use, the tips I can offer for making your food both more beautiful and more delicious, and the process photos so that each step can be carried out easily in your own kitchen!
Coincidentally… another convenient by-product is that you get to read and feel better about the state of your home and kitchen, just by reading about my completely insufficient housekeeping skills! Happy to be of service! (If you need a dose of “feel better about your kitchen” medicine… just check out my White Lasagna post. My kitchen was a real jaw-dropper that day!)
Read. Enjoy. Create. Eat. Share!

Carissa i am blown away by your blog. Not only the beauty of the food, but the detail in the food styling, the photography and the care you take with your instructions. Amazing. I might actually pay to read this.
i hope my onions end up in one of these photos. I have liked your chocolate cupcakes on facebook and asked my sister — a foodie like you who used to cater — to check out your blog. She is going to love it. Awesome!
Carissa, I just read your blog about blackened salmon and can’t wait to try it. We love fish and Greg loves salmon…so I am going to try this for dinner tonight! Thanks for the blog…I finally figured out this is you and look forward to your recipes and thoughts.
Sue… we make this fish all the time! Enjoy! I still remember cooking fudge with Kyle and Abby when I used to babysit them. And Kyle was too smart for me… he told me “My dad cannot withstand peanut butter fudge!” And I said, “He won’t like it?” And Kyle was like, “No! I said he cannot WITHstand it! He loves it!” I remember being bery impressed.
